SUMMARY:The SDGs and Asset Based Community Organizing with Civic Georgia (in-person event)
DESCRIPTION:Join the Institute for Leadership and Social Impact and Serve-Learn-Sustain for a community workshop on the SDGs and ABCD led by CivicGeorgia. \nCivicGeorgia is a BIPOC-led advocacy organization striving to amplify the voice\, frequency\, and impact of community-led efforts for progress. \nThis workshop is part of the Ideas to Serve weekly series and part of the UGC’s SDG Week Events line-up. \nMore about I2S: \nWe take a comprehensive approach to social innovation encouraging students to be compassionate listeners; identify and build on the assets of communities; research the solution landscape to learn from both what works and what failed; take a systems approach to identify the root cause versus the symptoms of the issue. \nStudents who aspire to work closely with and learn from a community partner/civic entrepreneur\, those who want to affect change in the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UNSDGs)\, and those who are wondering how they can make a real\, lasting\, and appropriate difference in other people’s lives are ideal candidates for I2S. \nIn the 2022 season\, student teams will learn from and work with our Atlanta area community partners and civic entrepreneurs. \nThe deliverable for I2S is a Stakeholder Map of the social issue student teams explore with their community partner’s guidance. The I2S Showcase will take place on April 18 where teams will present the outcome of their work to an audience of practitioners\, community leaders\, faculty\, and students. \nLearn more about our community partners and our supporters at ilsi.gatech.edu/i2s \nPresenters: \nDori Pap\, Managing Director\, Institute for Leadership and Social Impact\, Georgia Tech\nKevin Shanker Sinha\, Founder\, Civic Georgia\nRuthie Yow\, Service Learning and Partnerships Specialist\, Center for Serve-Learn-Sustain\, Georgia Tech \nIn person event at Scheller College of Business at Georgia Tech\, Room 203

SUMMARY:Integrating Environmental Stewardship and Sustainability into Existing Learning Experiences to Maximize Resources and Reach a Broader Audience
DESCRIPTION:At James Madison University’s Institute for Stewardship of the Natural World\, student engagement programs are designed to meet students where they are and demonstrate how environmental stewardship and sustainability can be connected to any academic discipline. Moving away from planning separate environmentally-focused programs and events and instead pursuing collaborative projects allows us to integrate environmental stewardship into other campus activities and reach a broader audience. In this online presentation\, you will hear about how a new approach to an established partnership opened the door to introducing the Sustainable Development Goals to hundreds of students each semester in a way that is relevant\, relatable\, and replicable\, and better reflects our learning outcome of “how environmental stewardship is and can be integrated into our lives.” Students attend the program at our Science On a Sphere site\, a visualization system designed for teaching Earth system science that offers a museum-like experience\, and woven into the content are local and global connections and examples of how their peers are tackling environmental challenges in and out of the classroom – and how they can\, too. \nThis will be a short online presentation. \nOrganizer: James Madison University \nJoin at: https://jmu-edu.zoom.us/j/86495109197?pwd=cEFiNmU0dG1vVmpzS3hrWEtRczNtUT09 \nMeeting ID: 864 9510 9197\nPasscode: 164150

SUMMARY:Sustainability Reporting for SME: Leveraging Sustainability Reporting for Sustainable Growth
DESCRIPTION:Sustainability Reporting or ESG Reporting (ESG stands for Environmental\, Social\, and Governance) is increasingly being mandated in many countries\, having a deep business relationship with SMEs. It is gaining global acceptance with investors\, regulators and other stakeholders. Investors and regulators are increasingly applying these non-financial factors as part for their analysis process to identify material risks and growth opportunities. This is influencing Investment and regulatory decisions and hence impacting the business of SMEs. \nSustainability Reporting is fast becoming a great equalizer and SME must take advantage of this and build greater confidence with investors\, regulators\, and other stakeholders.\nQualitatively engaging and aligning with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG)\, performing and reporting it through the Sustainability Reporting demonstrates commitment and asserts your business as a responsible business\, thus wining the trust of your stakeholders including customers. Engaging in sustainable business practices gives an unfair competitive edge to your business. \n1. Your brand draw credibility and trust from Investors\, suppliers\, and other stakeholders.\n2. You position your business distinctly above competition if your competition has not invested in ‘Sustainable’ practices.\n3. Your business would gain a greater Customer / Client confidence and trust; this impacts the quality of engagement with them. \nAt the webinar we will discuss how SME can use Sustainability Report and align with SDGs to benefit their business and contribute positive and meaningfully to the environment. At The Sustainability Practitioners\, we write “Sustainable Report” for business like yours. Reports that are value based; to your stakeholders and adds value to your business. The reporting is data driven and follows the current emerging global frameworks and is principle based\, UN Global Compact (UNDC)\, Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) and ISO26000 guidance standards. \nLINK TO JOIN: https://thesustainabilitypractitioners.com/courses/ola/services/sustainability-reporting-for-sme-leveraging-for-sustainable-growth-1 \n  \n\n

SUMMARY:Closing Re-Cap on Sustainability Literacy: A Global Challenge for Higher Education Institutions
DESCRIPTION:In this closing event of UGC Action & Awareness Week\, Aurélien Decamps\, Sulitest‘s co-founder and faculty at Kedge Business School\, will present the results of the UGC Sulitest submissions during SDG Action & Awareness Week. Sulitest will be open to UGC member organizations until 14 March 2021. See the Resources tab under SDG Action & Awareness Week for instructions. \nEvent Organizers: \nUniversidad Carlos III de Madrid \nSUNY (the State University of New York) \n— \nAbout Sulitest: \nSulitest is an international organization devoted to promote sustainability literacy\, that is\, the knowledge\, skills and mindsets that allow individuals to become deeply committed to build a sustainable future and that help them to make informed and effective decisions to this end. In 2016\, Sulitest was recognized as one of the first featured initiatives of the UN Partnerships for SDGs\, contributing to the second UNESCO Global Education Monitoring Report and to the review of the 2030 Agenda through the High-level Political Forum (HLPF). It also holds an observer status to the UN Environment Assembly and a Special consultative status with the Economic and Social Council since 2019. \nSulitest offers a variety of engagement and assessment tools that are aligned with the SDGs. To date\, almost 190\,000 people have taken Sulitest’s bestknown tool – the international Test\, offering the first global database on sustainability awareness. Yearly\, Sulitest publishes its Raising & Mapping Awareness of the Global Goals report at the UN HLPF\, highlighting trends from this database. The most recent awareness test conducted with a global sample of university students\, staff and faculty\, shows that the level of awareness about the goals is far from complete\, ranging between 44% and 65% for individual SDGs. At the same time\, the observed heterogeneity has remained constant over time. The results highlight the urgent need for the development of education and initiatives to raise awareness both of SDGS in general and of specific SDGs. \nTO JOIN THE EVENT: http://bit.ly/SDGSulitest

SUMMARY:Traveling Sustainably After the “Pause”
DESCRIPTION:This session will explore strategies that can be used to reduce carbon footprints in relation to international travel. Drawing on sustainable practices that can be implemented from the individual level all the way up to the institutional level\, we hope to identify some concrete ways that international travelers are already reducing their footprint and hope to continue to reduce in the future. With the current “pause” in international travel\, there is no greater time to rethink policies\, processes\, and strategies to better align with the values of the UN SDGs. \nPresenters: \nTom Carter – Director of International Education – SUNY ESF \nHugh Anderson – Senior Study Abroad Advisor – SUNY Cortland \nTO JOIN EVENT: https://syracuseuniversity.zoom.us/meeting/register/tJElde2gpjsjEtO4ymOtYqYJCLOndUazWR15
