SUMMARY:SDGs Student Awareness Wake-Day @ University of Ghana (in person event)
DESCRIPTION:The level of sustainability education and action on climate change in Ghana has been tepid over the past two years\, and the advancement of the country’s climate commitments is happening at a slow pace. The impending impacts continue to undo many development efforts and deepen poverty levels. Henceforward\, the goal of the SDGs Students Awareness Day is to develop an in-depth action plan to ramp up actions in the area of sustainable development both on campus and outside campus. The event includes a Sustainable Development Movie Screening\, Dialogue\, and a Vision board Creative Action. It will be student-led event at the University of Ghana. The identified venue is a conference facility at Alexander Kwapong Hall.  Our key objective is to exploit the use of problem tree analysis and development of solution tools by understanding the problem in-depth\, visualizing the links between the main problem\, analyzing the root cause\, and designing effective strategies for action. \nThe lead organization is the Sustainability Week Accra\, partners include AIESEC\, Youth Action Movement and Amnesty International chapter at the University of Ghana.\nFacilitators include\, Queen Murjanatu Attah\, Nii Noi Omaboe\, Jeffrey Adusei and others \n12:00-14:00 GMT

SUMMARY:SDGs and PEOPLES in a Region: Strategic OUTSTEPS for Students into a Career of Matching Interests and Expertise
DESCRIPTION:Since the adoption of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals by all United Nations Member States in 2015\, the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development has been used to form collaborations between various stakeholders\, rightsholders\, and industries with multiple levels of government. Ranging from international\, national\, state\, and local to even neighborhood and family-scale\, the main challenges lie in forming multi-disciplinary and multi-cultural partnerships with individuals giving their best to collaborate across disciplinary\, cultural\, and administrative borders. A crucial step in creating these collaborations is the education and integration of the next generation of students that have to carefully navigate the stormy waters of past historical realities\, current limitations\, and future looming crises. The speaker will share strategies for students to analyze and prepare themselves for careers in a field that bridges industry\, administration\, and government. To successfully link\, integrate and develop future collaborations linking PEOPLES’ interests and expertise requires one to step out of conventional procedures. The speaker led the development of the OUTSTEPS.org network in creating a regional network of expertise and knowledge to work on sustainability and community resilience and will describe how students can create their future careers in this field of work. \n  \nPresenter: Chris Renschler\, Professor of Geography at the University at Buffalo\, Fulbright Scholar and Director of OUTSTEPS.org \n  \nTO JOIN: https://buffalo.zoom.us/j/99620187530?pwd=NVMrZ1dTUkNkOVd0OGVnZmEvMkkyQT09 \nMeeting ID: 996 2018 7530\nPasscode: 56624877

SUMMARY:The power of partnership: SDG 17 and university partnerships to achieve the goals (11am-12pm GMT)
DESCRIPTION:11am-12pm GMT \nThe United Nations Sustainable Development Goals are the world’s call to action on the most pressing challenges and opportunities facing humanity and the natural world. Universities around the world play a key role in developing partnerships to address all of the SDGs. The University of Manchester currently leads the world for impact on the SDGs. Like other universities we have significant local\, national and global partnerships\, and we would like to use these to prompt conversation about how university partnerships help our sector to tackle global development challenges. The event will feature a local partnership from our pioneering BeeWell project; a national partnership from our UK Productivity Institute; and a global partnership discussing our work with the Association of Commonwealth Universities. We will then finish with an open invitation for organizations around the world to partner with us in addressing the SDGs through our University Living Labs initiative. \nTo access the University Living Labs partnership opportunity\, click here: universitylivinglab.org \nOrganizer: The University of Manchester \nPresenters: \nDr Julian Skyrme\, Director of Social Responsibility\, The University of Manchester (Chair) \nNeil Humphrey\, Head of Manchester Institute of Education\, from the BeeWell project \nNicola Pike\, Engagement & Operations Director\, from The Productivity Institute \nBright Amanful from our Association for Commonwealth Universities Queen Elizabeth Scholar initiative \nDr Jennifer O’Brien\, Academic Lead for Sustainability Teaching and Learning\, The University of Manchester \n  \nWatch live on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3Hir0xWvkb4

SUMMARY:Campaña Mundial por la Educación: llamada a la acción por el ODS 4 / Global Campaign on Education: Call for action for de SDG4 (IN SPANISH; 11:00 AM -12:15 PM CET)
DESCRIPTION:4-03-2022 11:00 AM -12:15 PM Madrid (CET) \n¡La educación está en crisis!

SUMMARY:ESDG Challenges: How to Integrate Multi-disciplinarity and Learning Innovations in the Education for the Sustainable Development Goals (17:00-18:00 CET)
DESCRIPTION:According to the SDSN report “Accelerating education for the SDGs in Universities”\, published at the end of 2020\, “mainstreaming Education for the SDGs can be difficult within existing university structures\, and deeper transformations in how universities operate will be needed to ensure this happens fast enough and deep enough”. The need to adopt an inter- and multi-disciplinary approach to address the challenges of environmental and socio-economic sustainability\, and the strong demand by students for transformational learning opportunities are two key issues that education for the SDGs has to deal with. The webinar will focus on how innovative and transformational initiatives can be successfully integrated into standard learning programs. \nOrganizer: Universidad Carlos III de Madrid \nChair: Esteban Nicolini (UC3M; co-director MASUS-Master in Sustainable Development and Global Governance)\nInvited speakers:\n-Francesca Lipari (UC3M\, Department of Mathematics)\n-Thomas Maillart (University of Geneva\, School of Economics and Management)\n– Isik Ozel (UC3M; Department of Social Sciences)\n-Fernando Valladares (CSIC-Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Científicas) \nTO REGISTER: https://us02web.zoom.us/webinar/register/WN_uZI8_VpmS_SX-bNFBstk8Q \n  \n— \nBios:\n-Francesca Lipari (https://researchportal.uc3m.es/display/inv46792). SUMMARY:17 Rooms: A new way to take practical next steps for the Sustainable Development Goals
DESCRIPTION:This event will introduce the 17 Rooms initiative and workshop the 17 Rooms process for a university context.Co-convened by the Brookings Institution and The Rockefeller Foundation since 2018\, 17 Rooms is a new approach to spurring collective action for the SDGs. Participants form working groups (or “Rooms”)\, one per SDG\, and propose specific\, practical next steps that can be achieved in 12-18 months to make progress for each. Action proposals are shared across Rooms to spot opportunities for cross-SDG collaboration that might bubble up. \nUniversities have been first-movers in adopting and adapting the “17 Rooms-X” process\, finding it a powerful device to (i) raise SDG-awareness\, (ii) make the SDGs practical and approachable\, (iii) catalyze new campus and community partnerships\, and (iii) align university-wide research\, teaching\, and strategic initiatives with the SDGs. Participants in this event will (i) learn the basics of the 17 Rooms process\, (ii) be invited to join the 17 Rooms-X Community of Practice and (iii) gain access to the 17 Rooms-X “beta toolkit.” \nLearn more about 17 Rooms: https://www.brookings.edu/project/17-rooms/ \nPlease register for this event ahead of time to help us design and tailor the event. \nPRE-REGISTER for the event at: https://airtable.com/shre6g8hDhflSVfci \nPanelists include: \nJacob Taylor\, Senior Project Manager\, 17 Rooms Initiative\, Center for Sustainable Development\, Brookings Institution\nShrijana Khanal\, Project Coordinator\, 17 Rooms Initiative\, Center for Sustainable Development\, Brookings Institution\nJason Ens\, Executive Director\, Academic Policy\, Planning\, and Strategic Initiatives\, Concordia University\nJudit Ungvari\, Research and Innovation Officer\, Institute for a Sustainable Earth\, George Mason University\nHeather Kincaide\, Director\, International\, Queen’s University
