SUMMARY:Sustainability Reporting for SME: Leveraging Sustainability Reporting for Sustainable Growth
DESCRIPTION:Sustainability Reporting or ESG Reporting (ESG stands for Environmental\, Social\, and Governance) is increasingly being mandated in many countries\, having a deep business relationship with SMEs. It is gaining global acceptance with investors\, regulators and other stakeholders. Investors and regulators are increasingly applying these non-financial factors as part for their analysis process to identify material risks and growth opportunities. This is influencing Investment and regulatory decisions and hence impacting the business of SMEs. \nSustainability Reporting is fast becoming a great equalizer and SME must take advantage of this and build greater confidence with investors\, regulators\, and other stakeholders.\nQualitatively engaging and aligning with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG)\, performing and reporting it through the Sustainability Reporting demonstrates commitment and asserts your business as a responsible business\, thus wining the trust of your stakeholders including customers. Engaging in sustainable business practices gives an unfair competitive edge to your business. \n1. Your brand draw credibility and trust from Investors\, suppliers\, and other stakeholders.\n2. You position your business distinctly above competition if your competition has not invested in ‘Sustainable’ practices.\n3. Your business would gain a greater Customer / Client confidence and trust; this impacts the quality of engagement with them. \nAt the webinar we will discuss how SME can use Sustainability Report and align with SDGs to benefit their business and contribute positive and meaningfully to the environment. At The Sustainability Practitioners\, we write “Sustainable Report” for business like yours. Reports that are value based; to your stakeholders and adds value to your business. The reporting is data driven and follows the current emerging global frameworks and is principle based\, UN Global Compact (UNDC)\, Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) and ISO26000 guidance standards. \nLINK TO JOIN: https://thesustainabilitypractitioners.com/courses/ola/services/sustainability-reporting-for-sme-leveraging-for-sustainable-growth-1 \n  \n\n

SUMMARY:Closing Re-Cap on Sustainability Literacy: A Global Challenge for Higher Education Institutions
DESCRIPTION:In this closing event of UGC Action & Awareness Week\, Aurélien Decamps\, Sulitest‘s co-founder and faculty at Kedge Business School\, will present the results of the UGC Sulitest submissions during SDG Action & Awareness Week. Sulitest will be open to UGC member organizations until 14 March 2021. See the Resources tab under SDG Action & Awareness Week for instructions. \nEvent Organizers: \nUniversidad Carlos III de Madrid \nSUNY (the State University of New York) \n— \nAbout Sulitest: \nSulitest is an international organization devoted to promote sustainability literacy\, that is\, the knowledge\, skills and mindsets that allow individuals to become deeply committed to build a sustainable future and that help them to make informed and effective decisions to this end. In 2016\, Sulitest was recognized as one of the first featured initiatives of the UN Partnerships for SDGs\, contributing to the second UNESCO Global Education Monitoring Report and to the review of the 2030 Agenda through the High-level Political Forum (HLPF). It also holds an observer status to the UN Environment Assembly and a Special consultative status with the Economic and Social Council since 2019. \nSulitest offers a variety of engagement and assessment tools that are aligned with the SDGs. To date\, almost 190\,000 people have taken Sulitest’s bestknown tool – the international Test\, offering the first global database on sustainability awareness. Yearly\, Sulitest publishes its Raising & Mapping Awareness of the Global Goals report at the UN HLPF\, highlighting trends from this database. The most recent awareness test conducted with a global sample of university students\, staff and faculty\, shows that the level of awareness about the goals is far from complete\, ranging between 44% and 65% for individual SDGs. At the same time\, the observed heterogeneity has remained constant over time. The results highlight the urgent need for the development of education and initiatives to raise awareness both of SDGS in general and of specific SDGs. \nTO JOIN THE EVENT: http://bit.ly/SDGSulitest

SUMMARY:Traveling Sustainably After the “Pause”
DESCRIPTION:This session will explore strategies that can be used to reduce carbon footprints in relation to international travel. Drawing on sustainable practices that can be implemented from the individual level all the way up to the institutional level\, we hope to identify some concrete ways that international travelers are already reducing their footprint and hope to continue to reduce in the future. With the current “pause” in international travel\, there is no greater time to rethink policies\, processes\, and strategies to better align with the values of the UN SDGs. \nPresenters: \nTom Carter – Director of International Education – SUNY ESF \nHugh Anderson – Senior Study Abroad Advisor – SUNY Cortland \nTO JOIN EVENT: https://syracuseuniversity.zoom.us/meeting/register/tJElde2gpjsjEtO4ymOtYqYJCLOndUazWR15

SUMMARY:Action on the SDGs: Nebraska's Local Work towards Global Goals
DESCRIPTION:While not everyone is thinking actively about how they are advancing the UN Sustainable Development Goals every day when they do their work\, many individuals across the University of Nebraska community are doing so. We’ll hear from students advancing the SDGs in their work with their peers\, administrators\, and the campus at large; how the goals are being advanced in the Lincoln community *and* the classroom (sometimes at the same time); and about cutting edge research happening both in Nebraska and with collaborators around the world. Ultimately\, it’s important to frame our work within the larger challenges of the SDGs and galvanize everyone in the community\, no matter their position\, to take action towards these goals\, too. \nPresenters: \nDr. Yulie Meneses\, Research Assistant Professor & Water for Food Processing Specialist\, Department of Food Science & Technology\, University of Nebraska-Lincoln\nDr. Michael Shambaugh-Miller\, Executive Director & Founder\, Produce from the Heart; and Lecturer\, Geography\, School of Global Integrative Studies\, University of Nebraska-Lincoln\nKathryn Woerner\, University of Nebraska-Lincoln environmental studies and natural resource economics major\, Programming Director for the Student Organic Farm & ASUN Senator\nModerator: Brianne Wolf\, Global Programs & Outreach Manager\, Institute of Agriculture and Natural Resources\, University of Nebraska-Lincoln \nTO JOIN THE EVENT: https://go.unl.edu/sdgs

SUMMARY:Engaging Students on Sharing SDG Best Practices at Their Universities: An Interactive Workshop with the SDG Dashboard
DESCRIPTION:Launched in 2017\, the SDG Dashboard is a collaborative visualization tool and analytical platform that shares data about how institutions are addressing SDGs in their practices and outcomes. This interactive workshop will guide participants through the SDG Dashboard creation process.  In addition to discussing the importance of the SDGs and data-sharing around the SDGs\, we will walk through the initial data entry using a shared\, open-source data sheet that all participants can engage with live with hands-on guidance from our team. During this activity\, the participants will be taught the core fundamentals of our SDG Dashboard building process we use on our Higher Education SDG Dashboards around the world. The end result is a collaborative\, diverse\, data visualization SDG Dashboard that we will provide every member access at the end of the workshop. The workshop will cover: \n• What each of the 17 SDGs mean\n• The importance of the SDGs in society\n• How to properly assess and classify the SDGs in terms of academia’s main impact areas\n• The applications of Business Intelligence software on raising awareness and knowledge on the SDGs (Tableau)\n• The importance of our youth and the impact they can have on the SDGs \nPresenters: \nDr. David Steingard\, Ph.D\, Director\, SDG Dashboard Team \nFrancis Grey\, Graduate student\, SDG Dashboard Team \nGrant DeClement\, Graduate student\, SDG Dashboard Team \nKara McLaughlin\, Undergraduate student\, SDG Dashboard Team \nRachel Butler\, Undergraduate student\, SDG Dashboard Team \nAlay “AJ” Jani\, Undergraduate student\, SDG Dashboard Team \n  \nTO JOIN THE EVENT: https://sju.zoom.us/j/94189354089?pwd=MitPTVQwalA4WVAzcWw4NE5NZFduQT09

SUMMARY:Climate Change and the Design of the Built Environment
DESCRIPTION:The Georgia Institute of Technology Kendeda Building for Innovative Sustainable Design Conference: Climate Change and the Design of the Built Environment: Enterprising Approaches for Industry\, Government\, and Community. \nConference Hosts: Michael Gamble\, Shan Arora\, and Kim Cobb\, along with the Kendeda Living Building Advisory Board \nThe symposium will be held virtually on March 4\, 2021 from 9:00 – 17:00 Eastern Standard Time. \nFREE REGISTRATION REQUIRED AT: https://arch.gatech.edu/climate_change_symposium_rsvp \n  \n\nAbout the Symposium\n\n\n\n\nEarth’s climate is changing now faster than any other period in the history of modern civilization; this acceleration is primarily a result of human activities. Global climate change has already resulted in a wide range of impacts across every region of the country\, and as we have seen throughout 2020\, new approaches are needed to combat pathogen transmission and create next level healthy places. Many sectors of the economy are expected to grow related to climate and health in the coming decades. \nConsequently\, the design and retrofit of buildings\, infrastructure\, and cities will be a major part of future efforts.  The design and responsiveness of the built environment is the basis for inviting leading thinkers in the field of climate and sustainability research to help foster creativity\, invention and entrepreneurship amongst participants with three primary goals: \n\nDevelop a baseline understanding of the current impacts and opportunities that the design\, development\, and responsiveness of the built environment has on climate change\, and climate change has on the built environment.\nIncrease understanding of the different communities and stakeholders that are involved in climate change debates via immersion in prescient topics formed around the design of the built environment: ethics\, economics\, health\, equity\, value\, etc.\nCreate valuable dialogue that assists industry\, government and academic leaders in understanding their role in how new environments\, especially the social and habitable\, can be reinvented in relation to emerging sustainability goals.

SUMMARY:SDG 4 Quality Education: Higher Education International Partnerships
DESCRIPTION:Education enables upward socioeconomic mobility and is a key to not only escape poverty but also to bring about tangible change in communities. Over the past decade\, major progress was made towards improving access to education at all levels globally. Increasingly higher education is playing a critical role in impacting society and providing important insight into sustainable development. The global COVID-19 pandemic has far-reaching consequences that may jeopardize hard won gains made in improving global education. In spite of this\, the sharing of educational resources by numerous higher education institutions during the early days of COVID-19 pandemic is an important example of the power of collaboration and networking. The role of partnerships and networks – both locally in our communities and internationally across multiple countries- cannot be overemphasized and with the COVID pandemic\, this has become clearer. \nIn this 7th webinar of a series on issues related to the Sustainable Development Goals at the University of Minnesota\, a panel of scholars and practitioners will discuss how university partnerships and networks are advancing impactful work in communities and countries around the world. Looking at a variety of network models in several fields\, panelists will offer examples and insights on where progress is being made and where more work is needed. Comments and discussion will focus on these SDG’s targets. \nPanelists:\nTom Fisher\, Professor\, Director of the Minnesota Design Center\, Director of MSSD and Dayton Hudson Chair in Urban Design\, University of Minnesota \nIrene Naigaga PhD – Regional Program Manager & Board Secretary – Africa One Health University Network (AFROHUN) \nKees Kouwenaar – Secretary General – European Universities Alliance – Aurora Universities Network \nModerators:\nKaren Brown\, PhD\, Co-Lead UMN Sustainable Development Goals Initiative\, University of Minnesota \nKatey Pelican\, DVM\, PhD\, Co-Lead UMN Sustainable Development Goals Initiative\, University of Minnesota \nThis webinar is hosted by the University of Minnesota SDG Initiative (Global Programs and Strategy Alliance) in partnership with the Office for Public Engagement. \nTO JOIN THE EVENT: https://umn.zoom.us/webinar/register/WN_6WlDWinBTJOjC1bSEYNHRg

SUMMARY:Beyond Bean Counting: Measuring Peace for SDG 16
DESCRIPTION:SDG 16 Peace\, Justice\, and Strong Institutions seeks to promote peaceful and inclusive societies for sustainable development\, provide access to justice for all\, and build effective\, accountable\, and inclusive institutions at all levels. Although metrics like the cost of corruption\, number of registered births\, number of homicides\, and number of refugees provide a baseline to measure progress toward this goal\, do these indicators truly measure peace? \nThe Carter School Peace Engineering Lab will host a conversation about innovative approaches to measuring peace that move beyond simple quantitative measurements and achieve a richer understanding of the context of peace. Peace Engineering Fellow Keil Eggers will share how SenseMaker\, a complexity-informed approach to participatory narrative inquiry\, can provide real-time maps of conflict systems and develop a ‘vector theory of change.’ Aniek van Kersen will discuss efforts to establish a quantitative “Peace Data Standard” to monitor contributions to positive peace and ultimately spur more investment in ESG (good Environmental\, Social\, and Governance) compliant companies. Each presenter will share for 10-15 minutes before Q&A. \nPresenters/Organizers: \nKeil Eggers\, Peace Engineering Fellow & PhD Student\, George Mason University Carter School for Peace and Conflict Resolution\nAniek van Kersen \nJOIN THE DISCUSSION HERE: \nJoin Zoom Meeting\nhttps://gmu.zoom.us/j/99428434559?from=addon \nMeeting ID: 994 2843 4559\nOne tap mobile\n+13017158592\,\,99428434559# US (Washington DC)\n+12678310333\,\,99428434559# US (Philadelphia) \nDial by your location\n+1 301 715 8592 US (Washington DC)\n+1 267 831 0333 US (Philadelphia)\nMeeting ID: 994 2843 4559\nFind your local number: https://gmu.zoom.us/u/a1yscz2Yt \nJoin by SIP\n99428434559@zoomcrc.com \nJoin by H.323\n162.255.37.11 (US West)\n162.255.36.11 (US East)\n115.114.131.7 (India Mumbai)\n115.114.115.7 (India Hyderabad)\n213.19.144.110 (Amsterdam Netherlands)\n213.244.140.110 (Germany)\n103.122.166.55 (Australia Sydney)\n103.122.167.55 (Australia Melbourne)\n149.137.40.110 (Singapore)\n64.211.144.160 (Brazil)\n69.174.57.160 (Canada Toronto)\n65.39.152.160 (Canada Vancouver)\n207.226.132.110 (Japan Tokyo)\n149.137.24.110 (Japan Osaka)\nMeeting ID: 994 2843 4559

SUMMARY:Monitoring and Countering Racist and Xenophobic Attitudes in Universities: A Study of the Spanish Committee of UNHCR (en Español)
DESCRIPTION:Universities play a strategic role in countering discrimination\, racism and hate speech in our societies. But do we actually know to what extent xenophobic attitudes may emerge or proliferate in university campuses? To address this issue\, the Spanish Committee of UNHCR (United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees) is launching an online survey targeting students of ten Spanish public universities. The survey is part of a wider research on the presence of racist and xenophobic attitudes in higher education institutions. In this webinar UNHCR’s researchers meet UC3M experts to discuss how universities can effectively monitor and counteract racism and xenophobia in their campuses.
