SUMMARY:Beyond Bean Counting: Measuring Peace for SDG 16
DESCRIPTION:SDG 16 Peace\, Justice\, and Strong Institutions seeks to promote peaceful and inclusive societies for sustainable development\, provide access to justice for all\, and build effective\, accountable\, and inclusive institutions at all levels. Although metrics like the cost of corruption\, number of registered births\, number of homicides\, and number of refugees provide a baseline to measure progress toward this goal\, do these indicators truly measure peace? \nThe Carter School Peace Engineering Lab will host a conversation about innovative approaches to measuring peace that move beyond simple quantitative measurements and achieve a richer understanding of the context of peace. Peace Engineering Fellow Keil Eggers will share how SenseMaker\, a complexity-informed approach to participatory narrative inquiry\, can provide real-time maps of conflict systems and develop a ‘vector theory of change.’ Aniek van Kersen will discuss efforts to establish a quantitative “Peace Data Standard” to monitor contributions to positive peace and ultimately spur more investment in ESG (good Environmental\, Social\, and Governance) compliant companies. Each presenter will share for 10-15 minutes before Q&A. \nPresenters/Organizers: \nKeil Eggers\, Peace Engineering Fellow & PhD Student\, George Mason University Carter School for Peace and Conflict Resolution\nAniek van Kersen \nJOIN THE DISCUSSION HERE: \nJoin Zoom Meeting\nhttps://gmu.zoom.us/j/99428434559?from=addon \nMeeting ID: 994 2843 4559\nOne tap mobile\n+13017158592\,\,99428434559# US (Washington DC)\n+12678310333\,\,99428434559# US (Philadelphia) \nDial by your location\n+1 301 715 8592 US (Washington DC)\n+1 267 831 0333 US (Philadelphia)\nMeeting ID: 994 2843 4559\nFind your local number: https://gmu.zoom.us/u/a1yscz2Yt \nJoin by SIP\n99428434559@zoomcrc.com \nJoin by H.323\n162.255.37.11 (US West)\n162.255.36.11 (US East)\n115.114.131.7 (India Mumbai)\n115.114.115.7 (India Hyderabad)\n213.19.144.110 (Amsterdam Netherlands)\n213.244.140.110 (Germany)\n103.122.166.55 (Australia Sydney)\n103.122.167.55 (Australia Melbourne)\n149.137.40.110 (Singapore)\n64.211.144.160 (Brazil)\n69.174.57.160 (Canada Toronto)\n65.39.152.160 (Canada Vancouver)\n207.226.132.110 (Japan Tokyo)\n149.137.24.110 (Japan Osaka)\nMeeting ID: 994 2843 4559
