SUMMARY:Maternal Mortality: Beyond an Indicator
DESCRIPTION:Maternal mortality remains a priority of the Sustainable Development Goals\, under the “Goal 3: Ensure healthy lives and promote well-being for all at all ages”. Target 3.1: By 2030\, reduce the global maternal mortality ratio to less than 70 per 100\,000 live births\, is a matter that concerns professionals from different backgrounds and also families that surround women when they are pregnant and after birth. Journalists\, health providers\, doctors\, nurses\, public policy designers\, politicians\, are just a short list of who should be involved in this matter. \nThis discussion-based event\, hosted by the International Observatory in Public Health will present the connection of Maternal Mortality to the SDGs and the importance of meeting the targets. As our aim is to make this event as interactive as possible\, it will begin with a quiz about Maternal Mortality basic concepts. Afterwards\, we will present a brief conference which will include the key points regarding Maternal Mortality and how to build and interpret the specific indicator (Maternal Mortality Rate); these previous two points are meant to create a consensus on knowledge. Afterwards\, the panelists interventions will start\, they will each have the floor to share their perspectives and evaluation of the maternal mortality situation in their countries\, we will have panelists from Colombia\, Perú\, México and the USA. As the individual conferences end\, the panelists will jointly outline take-home messages and put forward new ideas to face Maternal Mortality. Finally\, the event will conclude with time for debating the ideas\, questions and perspectives typed by the audience in the comment box during the conference.\nProfessionals from different disciplines are welcome to participate. \nPresenters: \nMaria Luisa Latorre.
