Syria in Transition
Schichtl Hall, Room 115, 4:00 p.m. -5:30 p.m.
Sponsored by: Center for Global Learning and Engagement, Schedler’s Honors College, SETF & Rotaract
Two UCA alumni with the Syrian Emergency Task Force will update us on Syria following the 2024 revolution. This event will explore the nation’s ongoing efforts toward freedom, democracy, and stability, highlighting progress and continuing challenges. Building on the 2023 Honors College Challenge Week on Global Conflict, the discussion will also connect Syria’s transformation to key Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
One year after liberation, Syria is entering a fragile but historic new chapter. Accountability efforts are underway. Civic space is reopening. Reconstruction has begun. The work now is building a just and sustainable future.
SETF’s Role in This Moment
- Exposed regime torture and war crimes to advance justice and global accountability
- Supported mass grave documentation and engagement with emerging justice institutions
- Helped repeal the Caesar Act to remove barriers to responsible reconstruction
- Advocated for civil liberties and democratic participation
- Supported de-mining, detainee release, and community rebuilding
Advancing peace, justice, strong institutions, and sustainable recovery. (SDG 16, SDG 11, SDG 17.) Presenters: Natalie Larrison, SETF Director of Humanitarian Programs and Mouaz Moustafa, Executive Director of SETF
All are welcome to attend and engage in this important conversation about the future of Syria.
