Reporting on the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) has become increasingly common at higher education institutions as we move closer toward the objectives of Agenda 2030. This panel discussion will examine the processes and motivations behind SDG reporting, considering the question, “how do institutions report meaningfully on their SDG initiatives instead of merely cataloguing them?” Direct French translation will be provided by the Institut en environnement, développement et société, Laval University. The University of Manchester currently leads the world for impact on the SDGs. Like other universities we have significant local, national and global partnerships, and we would like to use these to prompt conversation about how university partnerships help our sector to tackle global development challenges. The event will feature a local partnership from our pioneering BeeWell project; a national partnership from our UK Productivity Institute; and a global partnership discussing our work with the Association of Commonwealth Universities. We will then finish with an open invitation for organizations around the world to partner with us in addressing the SDGs through our University Living Labs initiative. This event is focused on increasing SDG awareness among students from Central University in Ghana. There is a huge gap in the area of climate education, and integrating climate or environmental knowledge in national education curriculum. Prior to this, there persist to be low knowledge about the impending impacts of climate change, and the need to take actions now. More so, localizing information around SDGs persist to enable grassroots individual to comprehend and take individual actions also seeks to be a hurdle in the Ghanaian community. Henceforward, Sustainability Week Central, a local sustainability week group within the international network of Sustainability Week International believes it is imperative to leverage on this SDGs A & A week to raise a massive awareness within our local campus.

Co-convened by the Brookings Institution and The Rockefeller Foundation since 2018, 17 Rooms is a new approach to spurring collective action for the SDGs. Participants form working groups (or “Rooms”), one per SDG, and propose specific, practical next steps that can be achieved in 12-18 months to make progress for each. Action proposals are shared across Rooms to spot opportunities for cross-SDG collaboration that might bubble up. Pre-registration requested.
