Reporting on the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) has become increasingly common at higher education institutions as we move closer toward the objectives of Agenda 2030. This panel discussion will examine the processes and motivations behind SDG reporting, considering the question, “how do institutions report meaningfully on their SDG initiatives instead of merely cataloguing them?” Direct French translation will be provided by the Institut en environnement, développement et société, Laval University. Community engagement is at the core of the European University YUFE (Young Universities for the Future of Europe), in which UC3M participates. The cities in which the ten YUFE partners and associate partners are located exemplify different urban models and provide a unique opportunity to work together to develop solutions to local challenges, in a true partnership to localize the UN Sustainable Development Goals. As an initiative to contribute to advancing the SDGs in higher education, Saint Joseph’s University offers the SDG Dashboard: A collaborative data reporting and analytics platform for global higher education institutions to share best practice impacts on the SDGs. The SDG Dashboard allows higher education institutions to dynamically and interactively share their best SDG impact practices in five core Impact Areas: Teaching, Research, Partnerships, Dialogue, and Organizational Practices.

This one hour session will review the SDG Youth Corps as part of the United Nations Regional Centre of Expertise (RCE) on Education for Sustainable Development in Georgetown, SC, an initiative of Coastal Carolina University, Georgetown County, and the Bunnelle Foundation in South Carolina. RCEs promote multi-stakeholder engagement for transformative learning and change in the framework of the SDGs among campus and community partners. This discussion will focus on the Youth Corps program and how students intern in community public and private organizations to gain career experience and contribute to building a more sustainable community.
